How we measure what edjing Mix users mix

edjing Mix records each song a user loads on a deck, with the streaming service it comes from. These pages only use songs loaded from music streaming services: music files stored on the device are not counted.

A user is one installation of the app. The pages never show a number of users: every figure is a share, an index or a position.

The data is updated every day. Each song is identified by its ISRC, the international code that identifies a recording.

A song gets a page once enough different users have loaded it over the last 90 days and it has been identified by its ISRC. The page then stays online, even if the song is loaded less later.

On Songs to mix, songs are ranked by the number of different users who loaded them over the last 30 days. Artists and genres are ranked by adding up the users of each of their songs over the last 90 days, and the song lists of artist and genre pages follow the same 90-day order.

For each complete week, from Monday to Sunday, we calculate the share of edjing Mix streaming users who loaded the song at least once. A streaming user is a user who loaded at least one song from a streaming service that week.

The chart shows the last 26 complete weeks at most, as an index: 100 is the song's best week in that period, and the other weeks are scaled against it. A share rather than a count keeps the chart readable when app usage changes, for example when fewer people use the app at the end of the summer.

Labels

The label compares the last four weeks, highlighted in the chart, with the four weeks before them. Each period uses its combined share: the users of the song over the four weeks, divided by the streaming users over the same four weeks.

The trend and the chart change once a week, when a new complete week is available.

Every week, the songs that have a page on edjing.com are ranked by the number of different users who loaded them that week. Only these songs are ranked, so a position compares a song with the rest of this catalog, not with every song available on streaming services.

A song page shows, over the last 26 weeks, its best position and the first week it reached it, the number of weeks it spent in the top 50, and its position in the last complete week if it was loaded that week.

Artist pages use the same trend and weekly chart, calculated for the artist. A user counts once a week if they loaded at least one song by the artist, however many of the artist's songs they loaded.

All the songs by the artist identified by their ISRC count, including songs that do not have a page yet and songs where the artist is one of several credited artists. The artist chart ranks the artists of the catalog in the same way.

An artist page shows the trend only when at least two songs by the artist were loaded over the period. With a single song, it would repeat the trend of that song.

Two songs are mixed together when the same user has them on the two decks at the same time: a song is loaded on one deck, then the other song is loaded on the other deck within 30 minutes, while the first one is still on its deck. Replacing a song on the same deck does not count.

Each song page lists songs mixed with it, starting with those mixed by the largest number of different users.

Mix strength

The bars next to each song show how strong the link is. We take the users who mixed the song with at least one other song of the catalog, and count the share of them who mixed it with the listed song.
